21st CENTURY PROTEST SONGS

08 Oct 2012 Comments 0

Music had a significant role to play in the fight against Apartheid. Protest songs were added to the struggle from all walks of life, and were as important to the transformation of South African society as any protest songs have been in the history of the 20th century. That rich seam appears to have dried up post-Apartheid. South African citizens, no longer divided along immoral racial lines, nevertheless have as much, if not more, to protest about in the democratic era. And yet no-one uses music anymore. So here are one citizen's rocks to throw through the windows of the passing blue-light fleet of Mercedes. A luta continua.
